Mr. Matthew Langevine

Director, Financial Intelligence Unit, Guyana

Mr. Langevine is the current Director of the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) in Guyana a post he has held from September 2016 - Present. As Director, Mr. Langevine manages the day-to-day operations of the FIU, which has a mandate to assist in protecting the integrity of Guyana’s financial system through the detection, prevention and deterrence of money laundering and the financing of terrorism in Guyana. He also represents the FIU on the country’s AMLCFT/PF National Coordinating Committee. Mr. Langevine is a trained assessor for the Caribbean Financial Action Task Force (CFATF) and Financial Action Task Force (FATF) Fourth Round Mutual Evaluation process. He also served as the Chairman of the CFATF Heads of FIU Forum from November 2017 – November 2018. Mr. Langevine worked at the Bank of Nova Scotia from September 1993 to September 2016 (23 Years). At Scotiabank Mr. Langevine he served as a Commercial Credit Assistant, Corporate and Commercial Account Officer, Corporate and Commercial Client Relationship Manager among other positions. He served as Branch Manager for several years including five years at the Bank’s flagship Carmichael Street Branch. Mr. Langevine spent six months (November 2011 – April 2012) on a developmental assignment with the Corporate and Commercial Banking Centre of Scotiabank Trinidad and Tobago Ltd. At Scotiabank, Mr. Langevine’s was involved in implementing and managing the Bank’s AMLCFT policies, procedures, systems of controls and strategies applicable to reporting entities, particularly in the Financial Sector. As a Branch Manager, his responsibilities included functioning as AMLCFT Compliance Officer at the branch level.
