The AMLFC Institute has established this recertification policy to preserve the integrity of the AMLFC Institute credential obtained by professionals in the AML field. By recertifying, specialists are demonstrating their commitment to keeping abreast of the AML/CFT/FCP industry, and continually seeking information to uphold and enhance their expertise in the AML field.

To this end, those holding the AMLFC Institute certification/credential are required to earn Continuing and Professional Education (CPE) credits as described below.

AMLFC Institute CPE Requirements

AMLFC Institute Certified professionals must earn a total of thirty (30) CPE credits every two years. Applicants will not be granted CPE credits for any activities completed prior to or while earning the AMLFC Institute credential. Additionally, once a professional recertifies during a given recertification cycle, the candidate restarts with zero CPEs and must earn 30 within the next two-year period (unused credits toward recertification in any given cycle are not carried over to another cycle) The deadline for earning CPEs is the date prior to earning your AMLFC Institute certification. Below are some examples:

o If you earn your AMLFC Institute certification on May 28, 2018, you must recertify by May 28, 2020 (Note: You must recertify by February 29 in leap years).

o If you earn your AMLFC Institute certification on June 1, 2019, you must recertify by June 1, 2021 (Note: You must recertify by February 29 in leap years).

Recertification Documentation/Retention

Recertification applicants are not required to submit evidence of CPEs with their application. Professionals are, however, strongly advised to maintain evidence of CPEs for at least two years (until the next recertification cycle for the applicant). The purpose of this is for audit reasons, as the AMLFC Institute sometimes selects candidates for auditing purposes, to uphold the integrity of the recertification process.

The AMLFC Institute has established an auditing process to, as mentioned previously, uphold the integrity of the recertification process. Recertification candidates are selected randomly for auditing. The Institute will inform candidates, in writing, if they have been selected for audit. Instructions will be provided to candidates on successfully completing the audit process.

Failure to Recertify

Candidates will be allowed a period of up to 60 days subsequent to expiration of his/her certification, to recertify. Candidates exercising this “grace” period (i.e. all candidates recertifying after his/her initial recertification deadline) will be subject to a late recertification fee of USD $25, in additional to the regular recertification fee of USD $175.

A candidate that has failed to recertify by his/her expiration date, and further has failed to recertify by his/her “grace” period extension date as described above, will be deemed to have abandoned his/her certification and said credential will be revoked.

A candidate that has been deemed to have abandoned his/her credential can reapply for certification, within one year of the date that his/her credential was deemed abandoned and revoked. This can be achieved by paying the recertification fee, the late recertification fee, demonstrating completion of 30 CPEs within the prior two-year period and re-sitting for the AMLFC Institute’s certification exam (any applicable exam fees will also need to be paid).

If the applicant does not obtain recertification by the steps outlined above, within one year of the date that his/her credential was deemed abandoned and revoked, s/he will need to complete the certification process as a new applicant/candidate, and complete all new applicant/candidate requirements, in order to regain the AMLFC Institute’s credential.

Extenuating Circumstances

Occasionally, extenuating circumstances may prevent a candidate from completing the requisite CPEs and recertifying by his/her deadline, and the “grace” period. If this applies to you, please submit the recertification application, a written letter with details and evidence of the extenuating circumstance, and a $50 processing fee to the AMLFC Institute by mail. The Board of Regents of the AMLFC Institute will consider your request and if granted, you will be allowed one (1) year from the date your certification expires, to fulfill the recertification requirements in order to maintain your credential. If you have not completed the requirements to maintain your credential after the one year “extenuating circumstances grace period,” your credential will be deemed abandoned and will be revoked, and you will need to complete the certification process as a new applicant/candidate, and complete all new applicant/candidate, and complete all new applicant/candidate requirements, in order to regain the AMLFC Institute’s credential.

Earning CPEs

The information below is provided as a guide to earning CPEs. If you’ve completed an activity that you believe warrants CPE credit, that is not listed below, please submit full documentation of the activities for review by the AMLFC Institute Board of Regents. The Board of Regents has final discretion regarding the acceptance of CPEs toward the recertification process. Recertification applicants may use the table below as a worksheet for tallying CPEs earned toward recertification. You are not required to submit this table with your application.
